Beaded WormsJust like the two worms in the book, your learner will make their very own worm, by threading beads onto a pipe cleaner! Threading beads is fantastic fine motor work that builds the hand-eye coordination kids need for writing.

Supplies

• Pipe cleaners (pink, red, or any fun color)
• Pony beads in assorted colors
• Googly eyes (optional)
• A small dot of glue to secure the end (optional)

Dollar store finds: pony beads and pipe cleaners are both easy dollar store finds.

Steps

1. For Caregivers: Tie the end of the pipecleaner so the beads don't fall off. 
2. Let your child thread beads onto the pipe cleaner one at a time. Encourage them to make a color pattern if they're ready for that challenge, or just go wild with colors!
3. Keep threading until the worm feels long enough.
4. Tie the other end over to close it off.
5. Bend the pipe cleaner into a gentle curve so it looks like a worm wriggling.
6. Add googly eyes to one end for the face!

Tips for Parents

• If the beads are too small or slippery, try larger beads first, they're much easier for little hands to manage.
• Color patterns (red, blue, red, blue) are a great math concept to introduce here, but don't push it if they're not there yet. Threading any beads at all is the win.
